Purpose
Approximately 80 percent of Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan’s Heartland’s revenue is generated through the 13-store upscale retail system, the As Is Center and shopgoodwill.com. The funds support our mission of helping individuals who have barriers to employment.
Beware! Not all thrift stores are charities. Some thrift stores are operated by for-profit companies, yet they solicit donations under the name of the charity. In these situations, the customers are usually not informed of the arrangement. Sometimes as little as five percent of the funds generated go to the charitable organization. So, if the ‘purpose’ of the thrift shop is important to you, Goodwill Industries puts all funds—after expenses--back into its mission.
By shopping at Goodwill, we all win. You shop in an upscale store with great prices and fine customer service. All the proceeds go back into the community as Goodwill uses the proceeds to operate the store and provide more services to more individuals with barriers to employment. |
